3 Advantages of Higher Education.

  1. Formal credibility.
Even if two people have the same exact skill-set, if one person has a degree in that field and the other doesn’t, it would be a no-brainer to hire the one with the degree. The reason is that the degree is proof of the skill-set.

  2. Network resources.
When searching for a job, getting a degree is 25% of the battle. Experience is probably 25% more of the battle. The other half of the battle is having an “in” with the field. Your university faculty are those “ins” that will help you get your foot in the door.

  3. Research guidance.
Although this point is often neglected, it may be the most important if you pursuits are more scholarly than job-practical. In school you stand on the shoulders of giants that have gone before, who have reviewed the vast amounts of literature. Outside of school, unless you have artistic genius in maneuvering what sources are worth reading, you can easily get lost in the sea of information.
